A school travel plan (STP) shows a commitment to sustainable and active travel and helps to increase the safety of the school community.

SMOTS

BCP Council has drafted a Sustainable Modes of Travel to School Strategy (SMOTS strategy) 2025 - 2026 which brings together all our existing relevant work and policies in one document.

It is a statutory duty for all Local Authorities to promote the use of sustainable modes of travel to school as set out in the Education Act 1996 and associated statutory guidance. The Act specifically states that local authorities must produce a document containing their strategy to promote the use of sustainable modes of travel to meet the school travel needs of their area.
