Transforming Cities Fund - what are we doing?
Sustainable infrastructure funded by south east Dorset's TCF
A major part of our TCF investment is funding a series of exciting cycling, walking and bus improvements all aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving air quality and offering eco-friendly, safe, healthy and quick journeys to work, education and leisure.
The tables below shows the sustainable travel schemes that are being funded by the TCF.

Beryl Bikes
TCF has funded the expansion of the Beryl Bike rental service across the region by investing in:
- 275 Beryl Bikes at 50 Beryl Bays in Christchurch.
- 122 Beryl Bikes at over 50 Beryl Bays in Wimborne, Colehill, West Parley, West Moors and Ferndown.
They can be hired at a reasonable cost via the free to download Beryl app.
Trip end facilities for business
Businesses across south east Dorset were awarded grants of between £500 and £20,000 to spend on workplace facilities that encourage their employees to cycle or adopt sustainable travel to work. A total of £70,000 was made available for these grants through BCP and Dorset Council’s Transforming Cities Fund programme.
Trip end facilities for schools
21 schools in the BCP Council have benefitted from a total of over £214,000 worth of grants (up to £20,000 each) to help them pay for the installation of new or improved ‘end-of-trip’ facilities which encourage healthy and eco-friendly journeys to school.
This has included new lockable bike and scooter racks, electric bike chargers, showers, changing and locker facilities, bike repair stand and static tyre pumps.
Wayfinding
New wayfinding totems to encourage residents and visitors to walk and cycle are being installed across the south east Dorset city region as part of the Transforming Cities Fund programme. The distinctive totems will be installed around the conurbation and along the sustainable routes. 20 have been installed across Poole town centre with the next tranche planned for Christchurch town centre this spring. They provide easy to read maps clearly showing routes to stations, hospitals, car parks, retail centres, parks, tourist attractions and other places of interest.
